This workshop is designed for business professionals and company representatives who seek to understand how impact investing can be applied to their work. This workshop consists of four, 1.5-hour modules.


Objectives

  • Gain an appreciation of the relevance and characteristics of impact investing from the perspective of the investor and investee companies;
  • Learn the core principles to execute an impact strategy, understand the potential of impact capital as a viable source of financing;
  • Learn the practical tools and frameworks for measuring and managing impact;
  • Model a theory of change for your organisation through an interactive case study;
  • Earn a certificate issued by the GIIN upon completion of the course.

What to expect

Module 1: Introduction to Impact Investing and Core Characteristics

Defining impact investing and understanding the characteristics of impact investing from the perspective of the investor and company that receives investments.

Module 2: The opportunity for companies

An examination of the impact investing eco-system from the perspective of the company, identifying ecosystem actors, including impact capital suppliers/providers, impact investment creators and demand/executors. Describing the different asset classes available to the relevant business stage of maturity.

Module 3: Becoming due diligence ready

Defining the core principles of impact measurement for companies, and gaining an understanding of your company’s contribution to impact outcomes. Modeling a Theory of Change for your company through an interactive case study.

Module 4: Reporting and accountability

Appreciating reporting norms for private market investors and how company management information and impact reporting contribute. Understanding the rationale for verifying and auditing your impact outputs.
